THE IMPORTANCE OF SILENCE
The first and foremost priority of the Modern Mystic is consistent exposure to silence. As human beings, our relationship to Silence could best be compared to our relationship to water. For some people, the only water they drink in a day is the water their coffee was made with. This results in a dehydrated body, prone to discomfort, distress, headaches, fatigue, malfunction, and illness. Someone on the other hand who is mindful of drinking water on a regular basis however, even in the midst of other beverages throughout the day, is healthier, sharper, more energetic, hydrated, and detoxified. So it is with Silence. A person who only experiences Silence in sleep is prone to stress, tension, mental clutter, existential confusion, emotionality, depression, anxiety, anger, and frustration at the hands of the noisy and ceaseless world around them, even if they do not want to admit that they are experiencing those things. A good test to see where you’re at is to sit down—literally anywhere—without your phone, and just stay there and do nothing for 20 minutes. If the experience is uncomfortable in any way, then you are “dehydrated,” so to speak. If however you are experiencing Silence on a regular basis, it will feel desirable, it will feel good, comfortable, home-like, easy, charming, truthful, secure, infinite, and existentially calm, free, and blissful. And therefore, so will you.
